Survey community needs
- Planned use cases for off-grid mesh comms? (Emergency preparednedness and/or countersurveillance?)
- Digital privacy/security needs of existing activist organizations?
- Skills that people want to learn? (i.e. 3D printing, microcontroller programming, HAM radio...)
- We will document needs during our March 22nd meeting, and make a plan to address them.
- If you have ideas/requests/resources, get in touch at contact@hyphapdx.org
Develop a resilient Meshcore network
- Will likely focus on Meshcore, with some support for Meshtastic
- Setup weekly radio check-ins to build familiarity and identify points for improvement
- Outreach to other orgs to get key community organizers in the mesh
- Host workshops for training and node building
- Build resource pool through donations, distribute to areas of need
- Build and install community-ran solar nodes (likely coordinate with homeowners and local businesses for permanent locations)
Distribute info on the importance of digital privacy
- Physical zines
- Website/Online propaganda
- Public events
- General promotion of grassroots organizing in the tech sphere and beyond
Build decentralized server storage for Portland activists
- Acquire old computers and other donated hardware (because new computers are too damn expensive)
- Educate and assist people in building their own server through workshops and buddy program
- Assist other orgs to store their data locally outside the watchful eyes of big tech
- Create shared distributed data storage for technical documentation, safety resources, and other important info. Design this in a way where if one server is taken offline, there are other backups.
- Need to consult with security professionals on how to do this safely
Build Reticulum network
- reticulum.network
- Potentially setup a GOES satellite receiver for offline weather forecasting
